Sir,

The recent report on "paediatric acute retropharyngeal abscesses (RPA)" is very interesting. [1] A study by Nazir et al. concluded that "children with RPA most commonly present with restricted neck movements, fever and cervical lymphadenopathy and rarely with respiratory distress or stridor. [1]" In fact, this finding is similar to reports from other setting. However, focusing on the problem of stridor, the data of the prevalence is different from previous report from Nigeria. Nwaorgu et al. in their study have reported that stridor is a common complication of RPA and it could be seen in 57%. [2] It is recommended that this is an emergency condition. Antibiotic administration and early surgical drainage is recommended. [3]
